Hi I know it’s a long shot that you may answer but I have a pre facelift e39 an trying to fit an entire facelift shaft in it pretty much the same as yours how did you retrofit the key tumbler to fit the old key ? Do you have a detailed instruction on how to do it I want to use my Orginal key
Very simple. I used 3 locks. The orignal and 2 from a facelift. I cut the orignal and took the pins out for the original key. Then I cut one open from facelift and used the outside and the other one I used the inside. Placed the pins from original lock and thats it.

I used to own a 1998 "MAgnificent 7" E38 470iL 4.4 lt v8 in the same OUTSTANDING Arktis Silber color. WHile I also like the Alpina blue color very much (I think all ALPINAS should be in that color), I would NEVER repaint my car in it.

I used to race with such a BMW, I was driving a Maserati Ghibli diesel. At speeds above 200 km / h, it was a bit faster, so I had to give way to it, especially since I was low on fuel. In a few kilometers I pulled down to refuel and met this BMW. The owner cooled the engine by pretending to add washer fluid. He was clearly upset and tried to hide it. I refueled, rested a bit, and he continued to pour the liquid with shame on his face. I felt sorry for him that he had spent the money on such overrated scrap. I had 8 different BMWs myself, so I know what I am writing because I had the same. Never buy a BMW, you will regret it.

You raced a 730d or something? Because the 760 would all day beat a Maserati. Even the best of the Ghibli wouldn’t come close to the V12 BIMMERs.

had a 2001 740i short sport, wonderful when it ran. After 80k it's a pig & high maintenance super model. Got over it in 10-15m after I sold it
I bought my 1998 Arktis Silber 740iL for $10,500 "like new" (refused the owner's last offer for only $9,000 "AS IS"), and owned it from 2005 to 2017. It had already 113k miles when I bought it, and by the time I donated it to charity (a $4,000 tax writeoff, which is the same as selling it for a mere $1,500 or so), it had 147k Miles. It developed problems after 2015 for the major ones, and minor ones, one due to the Assholes at the shop giving me the Wrong battery causing it to need several jump starts in the MI Winter. The E38 was the last STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL 7 series, and today you can sell 25 year old models with a ton of miles for ten times what I got when I donated it.
